Enns + Ybbs radweg 2026

The Ybbs cycle path was much nicer than the Enns one. For one thing, almost the entire route is on dedicated bike paths, it’s flatter, and there are no unnecessary climbs. There are also lots of nice rest shelters along the way, including some that are almost like little huts without doors.

The Enns route, on the other hand, was basically on local roads for the second half, with some unnecessary detours and climbs here and there.

Because of time constraints, I ended the Ybbs cycle path early in Amstetten and took the train, changing in St. Valentin (around €17), back to Enns where I had left my car.

I stayed at the Saagraben campsite for around €14. I paid the next morning at the Salzam restaurant, about 500 metres further up the road. The campsite has all the standard facilities — toilets, showers and hot water. The toilets also had an electric heater, which I really appreciated in the evening and in the morning, as it was quite cold… and very damp during the night and in the morning. The sun doesn’t reach the campsite until after 9 a.m., as it stays hidden behind the hills until then.

I also made a short detour to Salza/Wildalpen because of that amazing soup (Kaspressknödel Suppe) and the apricot pancakes at Bergkristall restaurant that I remembered from last year’s bikepacking trip. They were just as good as I remembered.
